Resisteth the Proud
1 Peter 5:5 tells us that "God resisteth the proud."
Moroni's Promise has been a point of frustration for some. They claim to have prayed with all the sincerity of heart they can muster and yet the heavens are silent. Some of these people (or their defenders) will take umbrage at the insinuation that there is some fault in the supplicant if they aren't receiving the inspiration from heaven.
It rarely behooves us to attempt to judge the heart of another. But in the aggregate, I wonder if this scripture isn't warning us that God has a hard time getting through to proud people.

On my mission we had an investigator that was keeping commitments reading the BOM and was also sincerely praying about it, but she felt she was receiving no response. I learned a great deal when my companion asked her if she would be willing to change her life if she felt that the Lord had told her it was true. She looked at us like we were crazy, and said, "No." My comp said, "The Lord won't answer you one way or the other until you are willing to put action behind whatever He tells you."
I came to understand that this wonderful lady was curious, but also very proud. Her pride prevented her from getting an answer. I occasionally find myself trying to repeat this same failed pattern.
