Forehead tattoo lunacy

deseretnews.com | Forehead ad will be with mom — forever

The sub-headline of this article was "For $10,000 and a brighter future for her son, Kari Smith on Wednesday became a real life pop-up ad for a virtual casino."

My first thought was that this woman's son needed a life-saving operation, and the only way it was going to happen was if she could raise $10,000. So she auctioned off her forehead.

Tattoo artist Don Brouse — in permanent black block letters — branded her forehead with the Web site domain GoldenPalace.com.

She plans to use the $10,000 to send her son Brady...to a private school.

So I'm glad that the boy isn't sick and doesn't need an operation. But...whoa. I really don't get it.

  • ok, i just came across this site and read thru the comments on here, first i would like to say how dare any of you who posted comments say such rude and very abusive things to me, not one of you have any idea what i have been thru, and to all of you who have said " that will not cover 1 semester of private school, i agree, but, i know that it will not cover a whole year, however after 2 years the money has covered private tutoring as well as offers for companies to enroll my son in classes for private schools in the future, as well as offers for colleges paying for his FULL tution!!! that is more than i can be thankful for, all i have to say is to each of you who has been negative towards me, walk a mile in my shoes before you say anything, i will have you know that since the tattoo my life for my son has gotten so much better he is more open, more positive, and willing to accept that to date 9 people have died in the last 2 years, OMG, when i read what you have wrote, i could not beleive my eyes, how dare you all critize me in what i have chose to do, does it make you feel better to say the things you do? does it make you feel better that you need to talk bad about a person? how does it make you feel to kick someone while they are down. if you all even read the WHOLE STORY, overlooking the money part and fame, you would see, deep down inside i am a PERSON!!! I WAS NOT LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO FEEL SORRY FOR ME, i was trying to find a unique way to pay for my son's college, which, before my sister was KILLED in an auto accident, was her wish, to have my son go to college, so, in closing, before you pass judgement on others, look at yourself and ask this question " if i did something like this mother did, would i like to be ridiculed for it!!" how would i feel in her shoes? how does it feel to LOSE 9 family memebers in less than 2 years?

  • I'm not sure what you are referring to--there are no comments on this post except yours, Ms. Smith, and I don't believe I said anything rude and/or abusive. I simply said I didn't get it. I still don't. I'm glad your son is doing so well, though, and I wish you both good luck.
